wiping out some student debt while allowing a broken system to keep piling it up is a pretty wild thing to watch, and such an admission of defeat. this does nothing at all to solve the problem.

do what other countries do--make university free but hard, and have minimal extra BS that makes it expensive. if not that, universities should underwrite their students' debt. if their graduates can't on average easily pay it back, it's at least mostly their fault.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, this was a move to win votes not address the root of the problem. Politicians are always self centred and do not think like entrepreneurs.

Seriously I can't imagine how this problem still in the US, while many developing countries as Egypt where I'm living solved such a problem in the 60s For sure the educational system in USA is way more developed, but with all resources available how it's not tackled yet

Why not ask: why isn't certain % not a tax writeoff? (Can't write off if you don't pay it back) Why is there a marriage penalty? Why can't employers help out without it being considered income?

Agreed! It’s like wiping out your business loan or giving a finger to your investors that got you there! And if you didn’t make it it shouldn’t be their loss, it’s your falure on their expense… wrong on so many levels! #studentloanforgiveness

It's a first step to many more steps. Our government can't work together to do something so big all at once. Calm down

You're wrong. There were several new policy additions to limit the piling up of debt. For example, limiting to 20 years of payment and 5% of income.

The system is truly broken; regardless, at this very moment so many are in dire financial straits, and this will allow them some time to breath while the system is repaired. Your energy, your opinion, your actions, your vote will make the difference. Act wisely.

It sounds like fraud of buying votes. Giving fish to people will make them feel entitled, teaching them how to fish is the better approach.
