i am still amazed how most startup investors are great at understanding that startups can grow exponentially but don’t understand that markets can too “the TAM is too small” has cost startup investors more money than any other often-repeated phrase i know of

Example of this is to look at AirBed&Breakfast and to think that the TAM is made of people who would sleep on an airbed / or the bed and breakfast market when instead Airbnb was going to disrupt the entire hospitality industry.

If you make a breakthrough, the TAM will be just a small indicator. Today’s TAM will be completely different from future’s TAM. The investors know this!
