i don't get how people can do serious thinking without a quiet environment. i'm pretty happy in any quiet, calm office with natural or very good artificial light, but i struggle to think in loud spaces. i wonder how much people liking WFH is this without realizing it.

When collaborating, I鈥檝e always found that noise, like laughing and shouting, is the fertile ground from which creative ideas sprout. I missed that while working from home. But when it鈥檚 time to put pen to paper and really focus, silence is a must. I loved that while WFH.

At times WFH is more quiet. In India Indian origin companies have fish market like environment. They don't value rest, quiet and well being.

Not possible for me as well.

Introverts function better in calm places, while extroverts need some external trigger like loud music or a lot of caffeine

Definitely one of the main reasons I enjoy WFH.

Bingo. Not only do I save time on the commute, but I don鈥檛 have to analyze thousands of lines of data with the noise of three different phone calls going on in cubicles around me. There鈥檚 an optimal mix of collaboration and WFH/individual work for every job.

This. It鈥檚 so nice to not hear chatter, hacking coughs, doors slamming, people zipping bags etc constantly throughout the day. WFH let鈥檚 you get fully dialled in. Just stick on a fan for white noise and begin.

I鈥檝e always assumed this is an introvert/extrovert divide. Open plan offices favour the extrovert

It鈥檚 mostly this and no commute. And yes, I realize why I like it. But you can鈥檛 change your office environment, no Bay Area company will ditch open offices despite really consistent research saying they suck. Would have loved a room with walls and a door and window
