AI is a rare example of an extremely hyped thing that almost everyone still underestimates the impact of in even the medium-term. what are other examples of this from the past couple of decades besides the iPhone? i'm curious what we can learn.

I feel that much of this gap is attributed to the narratives of AI, and how most of the general public doesn’t know what AI is?

We spend billions on defense healthcare, and technology/AI to protect lives, and yet the microscopic viruses manage to annihilate the entire cities and regions in a heartbeat. We grossly underestimate these mighty, microscopic creatures

Climate Change. It is extremely under hyped and we continue to understimate its impact even in the short-term. It will be a tussle between mitigation and adaptation. A lot of areas are quickly turning inhabitable, so forced migration to habitable areas will be a big learning.
