AI is a rare example of an extremely hyped thing that almost everyone still underestimates the impact of in even the medium-term. what are other examples of this from the past couple of decades besides the iPhone? i'm curious what we can learn.

Audio visual communication. There was a lot of hype. A lot is achieved. A lot more is yet to be achieved.

High fees on ios/Android App stores. This has disincentivized paid social media apps. Instead we seem to be in a downward spiral of attention seeking apps.

AI could be more like nuclear weapons + nuclear power than the iPhone.

CRISPR tech now used vaccinations and other medical usage. People thought this was going to be used in the real world 10 years down the line but the dominance is growing in healthcare everyday.

Nothing comes even close. Not from past 2 decades, not ever. We're about to leave Kansas.

Reusable rockets and their launch cost impact. The hype around the first few Falcon 9 landings was extreme. I believe very few people are prepared for hundreds, then potentially a thousand Starships leaving for Mars every 26 months in the medium-term

Internet and crypto. The reason why people underestimate A.I is because human can't comprehend the exponential curve of it's learning ability. Crypto is extremely underestimated at the moment because people don't really understand the problem it's solving.
