AI is a rare example of an extremely hyped thing that almost everyone still underestimates the impact of in even the medium-term. what are other examples of this from the past couple of decades besides the iPhone? i'm curious what we can learn.

the Internet - everyone is hyped obv but it's ultimately going to be the end of the dominance of the nation state, the decoupling of our physical selves from interpersonal social presence, and the end of the part of our relationship with matter that involves photon reflectance
