AI is a rare example of an extremely hyped thing that almost everyone still underestimates the impact of in even the medium-term. what are other examples of this from the past couple of decades besides the iPhone? i'm curious what we can learn.

Cheap microcontrollers. It is now trivial to add substantial computing power to anything. There is now no point designing complex electronic circuitry, as it's far easier to add a microcontroller and do the complexity via code.

I’d say, the decentralization of work from the office eg. Remote work, and all the subsequent tools that will be built to facilitate communication, productivity, and hopefully a different model for belonging.

Many get that TikTok is a big deal, but most underestimate how important it is to shift from social-media as ordinary content from friends (Facebook) to social-media as viral content from strangers (TikTok).

I'd say it's both under and overestimated. Anyone discussing artificial general intelligence applications -> overestimated Narrow intelligence applications -> underestimated
