AI is a rare example of an extremely hyped thing that almost everyone still underestimates the impact of in even the medium-term. what are other examples of this from the past couple of decades besides the iPhone? i'm curious what we can learn.

Brain machine interfaces transforming the idea of languages. Kids will learn how to communicate and bypass verbal language. Will use conceptual language primitives for much higher bandwidth communication. Will leave us in the dust.

The internet, of course, which is the most seismic of them all. Hyped to hell and it still beat all expectations. Amazon. Google. Streaming. Porn. All pre-www scifi with global communication failed to predict it right, thinking truth would win or using it just as a global phone.
