right now there are many high-skill immigrants that are begging to come to the US and we don't let them some day we'll beg them to come and they won't want to this is an important-but-not-urgent policy disaster, and worse than it seems

The game is to control labor costs. Don’t let doctors from other countries practice because that brings healthcare costs down. Let tech workers come because Americans want to study liberal arts or quit their jobs for travel.

All the unicorns coming from China & India recently could have been US companies. The immigration rules need a major overhaul.

There are already highly educated, productive, and affluent US citizens investing in obtaining second passports in case they need to leave what they perceive as a sinking ship. The other side of a sad coin.

I don't see too many other countries that can really compete with the US for highly educated immigrants though... Canada and Australia maybe, but the market in these countries is too small compared to the US, and wages are lower (at least in Canada)...
