i suspect that to fully understand the universe, we need AGI in a similar way to needing a telescope to understand galaxies our unaided faculties are not good enough, and we need better tools--or in this case, smarter tools--to help us make sense of reality

also, i think AGI is probably necessary for humanity to survive--our problems seem too big to solve for us to solve without better tools :( it's always hard to think about what tools will enable, but i cannot begin to imagine what we'll be able to achieve with the help of AGI

What would erradicate humanity without AI?

Why should an AGI much smarter than humans care to solve our problems?

Even specialized AI can do things that humans cannot do at all (or that fast / that good): - Theorems proofs and search for new things to prove arxiv.org/pdf/1912.01412.pdf - Playing the game without knowing the rules and without an opponent arxiv.org/pdf/1910.06262.pdf

so we won't survive because AGI doesn't even appear on the horizon

You cannot outsource intelligence without outsourcing control. We therefore will have to die in order to survive as machines.

This is like someone that said we need to evolve from our current biological state to explore the Universe. That our current biology cannot yet understand some concepts/ a better theory of the universe(>>> relativity) I think it was @ToKTeacher who did. Or @leecronin I dnt 🤷‍♂️

So many positive opportunities. Certainly challenges along the way. If you had to pick one domain for AGI to deliver on, what are you most excited about?

How worried are you about managing systems that exceed our intelligence?

Our human brain is extremely limited in many ways. Therefore I suspect AGI will also be very limited. Nevertheless it definitely may help many folks that are more limited than the gen pop.
