i suspect that to fully understand the universe, we need AGI in a similar way to needing a telescope to understand galaxies our unaided faculties are not good enough, and we need better tools--or in this case, smarter tools--to help us make sense of reality

also, i think AGI is probably necessary for humanity to survive--our problems seem too big to solve for us to solve without better tools :( it's always hard to think about what tools will enable, but i cannot begin to imagine what we'll be able to achieve with the help of AGI

Is there a particular example that comes to mind?

The AGI may understand the universe, but we'll be too stupid to understand the AGI. It'll be like worms contemplating aircraft design.

No AI is just an extension of (y)our fundamentally inefficient (linear) means of apprehending the universe; it will only make it more intricate, but will never actually lucidify it

The absolute only way to progress on the Kardashev Scale is to harness A.I., it is imperative that we advance it and coexist with it.

I don't think any entity can "fully" understand all of reality. But better tools will certainly help us in creating progressively (and perhaps dramatically) better models of it

I agree, we are too biased. We thought the earth was flat, thought the planets circled us, so many other examples. The universe probably has a few variables we can’t even recognize, agi probably could.

By “we”, you mean in the same way the child of a nuclear physicist understands quantum theory.

The only logical deductions: WE r AI. The AI we build will build other AI that can gather and utilize even more data; and can then build more simmies. The real “solution” is getting out of this loop.

One such tool is biobanking, if you have any interest in your own fleeting, human franchise in this, our earthly heaven. humanism.substack.com/p/geni…
