i suspect that to fully understand the universe, we need AGI in a similar way to needing a telescope to understand galaxies our unaided faculties are not good enough, and we need better tools--or in this case, smarter tools--to help us make sense of reality

also, i think AGI is probably necessary for humanity to survive--our problems seem too big to solve for us to solve without better tools :( it's always hard to think about what tools will enable, but i cannot begin to imagine what we'll be able to achieve with the help of AGI

Reminds me of the quote by @StanislavGrof the significance of psychedelics for psychiatry and psychology was comparable to the value the microscope has for biology or the telescope has for astronomy.

Sam I think we're not even truly alive as unaugmented offline anolog deteriorating biological entities right now. We'll be truly alive for the first time when we start to merge with AGI probably via @neuralink

We already have AGI - they’re called babies

To what extent have telescopes actually helped us to *understand* galaxies?

We first need much larger aperture instruments. Like 1000x.

VR technology can allow us to mentally occupy micro-space as well which is particularly exciting.

Yes, but then we would also need to understand the AGI. I wonder if they're the same: understanding AGI == understanding the universe
