i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

I guess in this case equalize = salaries go down? Tough to see that happening, but yes if it does happen, will happen very quickly. If one company does it, others got to do it to stay competitive.

I feel it will be the shift in equalization between cities. Costs will go up in a few and lower in others. Which is great for the average joe/Jane living there!

Someone with time and capital could probably do well structuring real estate positions in cities with the highest concentration of remote developers with the lowest current cost of living.

You would think but I'm seeing the opposite. I'm watching orgs double down on the we pay market for location not role.

Tech companies political position in the is to precarious for them to lower US salaries. They already have way too many targets on their back, they don鈥檛 need to piss off protectionist as well. Plus English penetration isn鈥檛 great in the us time zones.

Cybersecurity has national requirements though. Most American companies don't want a Chinese cybersecurity analyst working for them. That's part of the reason I moved back here for this industry.

I imagine we'll see timezone-correlated wealth develop. e.g. a SWE in most of Latam can easily work for a US-based company during US hours, pushing Latam salaries up and US salaries down. This will change the world as we know it.

This has been happening for years, albeit gradually!

Equalise within tech and equalise so that average white collar is = or < blue collar within a region
