i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

A superficial analysis. Sense this is the case for a long time, why is it not the case? Outsourcing hasn't lead to equalization in other areas.

Top performing developer salaries will increase, this will only impact mediocre developers. A 10x engineer will easily be able to put themself in a bidding war not bound by location.

Companies continue to use the cost of living and other factors as an excuse to underpay the employees and make them do the same work. I hope things change, but I doubt it will, especially in big tech.

This just means finally remote talent will be paid actual value rather than be taken advantage of due to location. It might also mean that the value of seasoned workers will increase as before companies valued younger, single, and more expendable employees.

Why doesn’t it make sense? For companies looking to save money during a recession, it’s in their best interest to pay (somewhat) according to the local market. Moreover, timezones are gonna be a big issue.
