i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

That does seem to be in process. Worry about destructive impact of inflation in some cases, but perhaps that’s OK in the end.

It's def. going there. Needs more education about how much people should value themselves tho. In SEA, $50K/yr is a dream for many people, so they would be easily happy with it and not know they are worth $200K+. Companies are taking advantage of that & I don't like it.

I agree. I expect digital worker salaries to implode as companies wake up to the fact they can get the same quality and quantity of work from the developing economies. Kinda like how every tech service center switched over to hiring firms in India back in the 90s.

Key phrase is "same work". Good luck getting the same work quality. We've been through this before with basic IT.

I’d point you to offshore delivery centers…

Biases on who should be paid how much based on their country is persistent though. Companies think one deserves less or more based on their location.

No. Not as long as there are people willing to do the same job for less, and there are still plenty.

Hope you’re right.

this has always happened in my experience working remote prior to covid in games for smaller studios. you hire quality talent anywhere you don't pay them bottom tier rates unless you want bottom tier quality. Countries should be doing whatever they can to attract remote workers
