i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

The disruption in white-collar jobs triggered due to 100% work from home, which was triggered due to COVID-19 + availability of good enough tech tools, where now the global workforce competes for what were once local jobs, has been a key society disrupting event in the West.

The major discrepancy in pay we are seeing now is based off timezone differences, as working sync can be challenging if they have over 8+ hours timezone difference.

Not so sure about this - think there will be one salary (for in office / one if Hq decent amount) and another lower salary (for full remote)

Might lead to the creation of new network states @balajis calls out. ESP if paid in crypto. Would be interesting to look at stats of GitHub contributors by geo and their income.

equalize up or equalize down? I don't see how they equalize down since a high quality engineer is still a scarce resource. Outsourcing IT jobs has been happening for decades now, and time and time again it proves to be a disaster. You get what you pay for.

Tech salaries in developing nations are going to 🚀 (Probably 3 to 4X over next couple years)

Proximity and collaboration in the same time zone is still very much a thing, even with remote work. An employee in the US that's close to leadership will still most likely be in higher demand than an employee with a 12 hour timezone difference
