i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

You may be 50% correct. Language, culture and time zone barriers wiil keep at least some differentiation between markets.

The barriers to that are cultural and linguistic, less so geographic. I mean why does _anyone_ really need to work physically closely?
