i think worldwide tech salaries may equalize pretty fast--doesn't make sense for companies to pay differently for the same work depending on where people live if everyone is remote anyway--and its going to have some pretty interesting effects

We’re in the early stages, but this is already happening. Bullish on LatAm given US time zones

This, combined with Starlink, is enabling the rise of the digital nomads. It’s going to be great. We need simpler tax laws though to account for these digital nomads. Traded email with a state regulator in Wyoming today on this very topic.

Not only on IT workers. Look at this:
My dentist’s reception desk is manned by a woman in the Philippines on video. When you walk in, an iMac is facing you with her on camera to check you in. Owner said he struggled with high turnover and bad employees. Philippines woman has been flawless by comparison.

In theory this makes sense and directionally sound but in practice the correction can take a long time as salary histories are still a major factor in how people are paid within ranges. With universal remote, ranges widen (not narrow) so disparities will persist.

rentals increase, cost of eating out increase without necessarily improving the quality of life. If a lunch meal costs $5 in the US, you can have the same meal for Rs.250 here in India. The list goes on. After some point, you will see a greater inequality .

What do you make of the @danielgross argument that America’s engineering advantage reduces to taste / aesthetics / finesse? From CWT episode 150 conversationswithtyler.com/e…

I don’t think this will be the case as a large number of organisations will expect you to go in at least 1 day a week. Those that want full remote will either be exceptional or paid less.

This has already been happening at the early stage anyway. Many YC people I know were paying the same rate matter where they hired, minting gods sometimes lol
