Techno-cynics are usually only ostensibly in favor of liberal Democratic values - their cynicism is often rooted in a broad sense of contempt for average people, leading to a latent if not often disclosed belief in the virtues of autocracy by experts.

Studying history should really make us all liberal techno-optimists! Not much more than a century ago most families had numerous children hoping that a few of them would make it to adulthood. Today child mortality is less than 3%! That's just one data point of hundreds

Most people stand for liberal/democratic values but certainly a lot of them don't know about converging technologies. Although that seems to be changing thanks to the extraordinary advances in AI this year. Let's keep going.
