We all know this, but human nature has a bad track record. Limited scope of power is the best way IMO.

Pro tip for elitists: try not to make people resent you lol

If you have power, and want the things that motivated you to seek power, don't keep it. Instead, clarify for the public that you are under such an imperative and how that imperative is imposed rather than leaving them confused and continually betrayed.
