KSPP fairy tale du jour: openwall.com/lists/kernel-ha… … (hint: if RANDKSTACK was inspired by stackjacking then how could the supposed inspiring presentation have talked about it? perhaps because in reality it had already existed for almost a decade? :))

Hi pipacs! IIRC, RANDKSTACK was implemented in the early 2000s, and then was ported to amd64 after our presentation. Is that accurate?

RANDKSTACK was born on i386 in 2002 or 2003, i forget now, the amd64 version is from 2011 after the HES presentation. what that presentation did inspire was STACKLEAK though and my career in gcc plugins (after i'd procastrinated^Wwasted my time in the llvm world for too long :P).

👍 (side note: isn't LLVM making a kernel comeback now?)

yeah, a decade later after i had fixed up/worked around what i could. not exactly speedy progress (on both sides FWIW) but we'll see if it gets to the point where it finally enables the same work that gcc made possible.
