HTTPS is fast if you also use HTTP/2: troyhunt.com/i-wanna-go-fast… Enabling HTTP/2 is dead easy with Nginx and HTTPS is a lot easier if you can use Let's Encrypt. But as ever some hosting companies know what they're doing, some don't so YMMV.

That's exactly my concern as well as others... People don't know what they're doing even in the industry much less consumers. It is absolutely a system design process problem. We are a messed up industry where brilliant people build and run it but don't iterate and repair broken.
