It greatly pains me to have to pay to go to retrieve all my photos off of @Flickr. I loved that site bestest when it was at its best, which it hasn't been for a very long time whether UI or functional design. The Web makes me sad a lot lately. Declarative Weltschmerz, as it were.

The things is Flickr still has such potential! It’s much more feature rich than Instagram... and yet... here we are...

I know! It is maddening and frustrating. Hence my sadness Rosemary. Remember how simple it was in 2005. Same for Twitter. They were better when simple and/or I'm old ;-)

Pro version. I'm particularly pissy about it because I was promised I'd "never have to pay" for that. Same with Netflix. People move on from jobs though, and their well-intended gifts turn into burdens at times.
Yeah but Technology Lead Jane General gave it as a gift for visiting, said it was forever, and left the company. Tech Lead Jane is not equal to Yahoo. Therefore, it's not the same. This isn't evil. Verizon, on the other hand...yeah. Evil.
That's the prob - they're public but only in one size. I reupped for 6 dollars which is enough time to get all the data back at least and leave the rest to the ghost town web site it's become.

It's a common feeling among us trailblazers who lived the '90s and ' 00s of the web. These days it's all money money money... We thought it would eventually come to this, but still...

exactly. It fell from "progressive tech" to "same-old middlemen profiteers with amplified predation" model in one quarter of a century.

More info please. Link or something. This doesn't sound good (I'm a pro user, guess I could log in or google, but you brought the subject up! ;-)

Hi Mike. I was gifted a pro account in 2005 by a tech mgr @Flickr. I uploaded tons of photos to my pro account. Person at Flickr moved on to other jobs as we do in this industry, and I was left having to pay for Pro. I stopped paying. I want to catalog pics, to do so I paid. HTH!
