Shireen, I have heard from other folks that purposeful decisions have been made to not engage with the "rock star standards" or @w3c communities as there was no representation much less outreach. What are your thoughts on this? #respectToYou 鉂わ笍馃挌馃挋
This article came out in 1997. I had already started the first WoC web firm. Two years later I would form Digital Sisters/as the very first organization to get women and girls of color online and in tech.

I have a bunch to say about this. The standards had a particular group in mind. It still does. This is indeed on purpose. It's part of closing the door on diverse history of tech.

literally working on projects that clearly marks this problem and it's a battle on my end to even get folks to think differently about it. There is a lot of resistance. The "rock stars" are literally a social signal while folks resist social signaling at the same time.
