it's so complicated and varies by individual - day by day the pain and the person's needs change. i'd want to know how they want to live.

My husband lives with chronic pain daily, MS, and the remnants of his battle with HLH. Meds are necessary, but he values being alert/working

I think I structured the question poorly, as absolutely the patient, if conscious and able, is the one who should make such decisions. :)
