That's very true, and wise. And the suffering happens. We find the joy we can but sometimes it's a huge struggle through the depression.

I have been depressed my entire adult life, almost went insane at 24, & my depression just ended suddenly a month or so ago.

I've suffered from chronic depression. Being beaten so badly by my stepfather that I had to be put in the hospital and life makes life hard

I too was physically and emotionally abused by both parents and then some. It makes for an unstable start to life. Hard to course-correct.

It is sad that hugs are therapeutic. I had such a love deficit in my life every hug is like a breath of life.

TRUTH! I've literally bean to the brink of insanity & if I would've had one hug, I would've been normal. And that's in adult life.....

...I was holding myself hostage from getting close to people & a hug would've changed it all. We lack hugs communicating from distances.

Yes, or ones that were forced on us that were unwanted factor in as well. I was once a much more affectionate person. Get bit enough, well.
