In genealogical DNA @billsdesk to my understanding that's exactly correct, and that's how melanin amounts are influenced.

Who knows, white skin may be a genetic adaptation from dark skin. The result of becoming cave dwellers in colder regions.

A theory denied by religious racists. Evolutionary DNA is why we have trichromatic vision, why some women are tetrachromatic.
