How about we change our dictatorial communication. Instead of "YOU NEED" perhaps use "I strongly encourage you to-" #resist @EvanRobertWood

oddly enough my wife used the same phrase just the other day "I strongly encourage you to ...", and I was compelled to do it.

It is proactive language rather than confrontational. A method which says that another person's individual choices are respected.
