Help me out: Your family of origin causes a lot of suffering in your life. You work decades to make changes but they do not. What do you do?

That's really tough. A lot of folks have said this too. I think if people can still find a way to communicate, there's hope. Maybe.
How did you find peace in putting distance between yourself and distressing situations so damaging but core to identity? Difficult!

I distance myself from said members in hopes that something changes w/them & focus on myself & my health. (I have done this)

Any tips? How do you protect yourself from emotional upheaval? I'm not good with compartmentalization. Distraction helps me more.
