There's even a Wikipedia page for "Death to the fascist insect that preys upon the life of the people!" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_β¦!

And of course, that link doesn't work b/c the link itself ends w/an exclamation point that (as expected) is stripped by clients @jimmy_wales

It works if I hex-encode the ! at the end of the URL: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_β¦

Back in the day, we saw how periods got added to URLs in email & such when the period was intended to end a sentence. #webdev

& t/thing is:it's perfectly alright to do such:there's no prohibition against URLs ending w/periods or apparently at least some punct.e.g. !

But this contradicts with the realities of email & other clients that need to handle URLs, as I noted back in 2014
@jimmy_wales e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griggsβ¦. URL 404 since ending period unlinked in numerous clients.

I wonder if this punctuation at end of URLs is addressed in the HTML5 spec? Let me ask @shelleypowers @mholzschlag
