It's certainly let to a culture where I keep certain opinions to myself out of fear they may be considered offensive.

Web is now a place where if you speak up you are subject to censorship through public meme-ing, shaming, gating. Human problem.

I find this a difficult subject. I believe that shaming can be useful, and even necessary in some cases.

For instance, if you don't consistently shame racist discourse, it opens the door to normalising racist behavior.

I've made lots of racist jokes in the past, simply because that behavior was normalized amongst my family and friends.

I was lucky enough that people took their time to explain to me in a kind way why this was not okay, and it opened my eyes.
