Here now is my ethical question: If you are told about a crime through back-channel discourse and it could be a falsehood, what do you do?

Had to deal with this a little while ago. We determined it was false, but nothing happened to the lier. It could have been bad.

I'm sorry for that. I had hoped better of us. I wanted - still want - the Web to be a better system socially and technically.

The thing that really frustrates me is not the falsehood but the fact that each falsehood ruins a thousand truthful real issues

Beautifully writ. And one bad actor stinks up the stage for everyone else. I didn't realize that if we harm one we harm many.

That's my thought as well, but sometimes circumstances prevent the option at all, unfortunately. I liked the earlier idea ;)
