Maybe. Are standards a subset of ethics, the other way around, or two different things? Not sure offhand.

Social/Professional standards are as !important as technical standards. We've not fostered social and civic standards. We should.

As once I told someone re: a quixotic attempt to get browsers to play nice, success seems unlikely but it may be worth trying.

I don't think so. I hope not! Idea is to swing the pendulum *away* from such issues and to the profession itself.
