@mollydotcom apparently we automate the import of urls to .htaccess file but the mapping is done in excel first. @jearle is that auto too?

@brightwhite @mollydotcom I’d do a database dump of all the permalinks from the database and then sed/awk that into an htaccess file.

@jearle already more server skillz than I have. If I have a manual (I swear, I only read the necessary parts) I usually do ok @brightwhite

@mollydotcom @brightwhite Give me an example URL from the old blog. I think I have an idea.

@jearle @mollydotcom and this is why I love the internets.

@brightwhite @mollydotcom My hope is that the permalink style is date-based. If that’s the case, it’s just regex.
1
@jearle @mollydotcom should be easy in that case to change the root domain. When the structure changes completely, it’s much harder.

@brightwhite @mollydotcom redirect all 2011 pages: RewriteRule ^/2011/(.*)$ newsite.com/2011/$1 [L,NC,NE,R=301]

@jearle Jared, so I'd add that to .htaccess at root for each year? Or if you have time to just do it, I'll buy ALL the virtual beverages!
2
@mollydotcom Does your .htaccess look like this?

@jearle That is the .htaccess at the www level, archive.molly is sub to that.

@mollydotcom And yes, this is the root .htaccess file you need to add the text to.

@mollydotcom Excellent. I’ll see what I can do.

@mollydotcom If that test works, this is the text to add: cdn.23x.me/molly_htaccess.tx…
