I fear a NHS in the USA. We're already beyond Kafka-esque with anything served up by government,

See, to us, the idea of paying for a doctor's appointment or for a stay in hospital seems kafkaesque!

I fear more a continuation of the current situation where people with ok insurance still owe $200K for hospital co-pays.

I know someone charge $96K for a snake bit (didn't even stay the night). Hospital backed down to $5k when publicly shamed.

That's still so outrageous it makes me want to roar. And that's a very loud sound. Possibly illegal. ;)

Well, it has to run basically independently of gov. They just pay for it instead of insurance companies taking half the money.

@doug_hanke If I go to the doc I just book an appointment & go. No fee. No paperwork. Fixed prescription charge but I'm exempt from paying.

@doug_hanke OK I do have to tick a box on the back of the prescription to say I'm exempt & sign it, but that's all the paperwork there is.
