Maybe
#a11y
is "insider" language? I know I picked up these shorthands at the
#w3c
- and it's not me being a jerk. We use the tools we have.

I just think
#a11y
is victim of what it stands for. And of course, a numeronym, by definition, is never really accessible.

what if the diff. between a11y & other numeronyms like i18n, l10n, etc. was just that a11y was becoming more mainstream?

surely it’s no more ‘insider’ than ‘HTML’ or ‘CSS’? It’s just another one of those things you learn as part of the job, right?

yes,
#a11y
is too insular, you have to know it, otherwise you are on the outside.

I find a11y to be ironic, as it is an inaccessible name. No idea what it means unless you’re in the know.
