Why do people fight for paper marriages gay or otherwise? Marriage by Law serves those who are married to a very limited degree. Whose Law?

@mollydotcom (SSM = same-sex marriage. I know LGB people in opposite-sex marriages, so gay vs. same sex is a meaningful distinction!)
