Hi. I'm here with a question. In a well respected and diverse convention I saw two black people. Can someone explain Why?

@mollydotcom That fits with what the ALA survey has shown over the years, but that just pushes the “Why?” to a different level.

@meyerweb To clarify: I think ALA surveys a significant but limited group of webfolk.
2
@mollydotcom Dark matter developers as we in the team used to say. The ones who are not visible, but form a majority of the work on the web.

@shwetank "dark" matter devs indeed! Sometimes they are very visible. Don't you find them when you speak?
1
@mollydotcom Yes. *Some* of them i do find. However, most of them are not vocal enough and many don't even come to conferences, events etc
1
@shwetank Do you think that's cultural/geographical, or something else?
2
@mollydotcom @shwetank conferences are usually self-selective to devs that have employer $$ backing, which is highly exclusive subset.

@AnnykaV @shwetank We can have a visit over at my house for 3 days without any $$ backing. Or meet at the pub. Just talk to each other!

@mollydotcom @shwetank that would be awesome. I miss my web folks

@AnnykaV @shwetank well, my house is open for all visitors. I can't promise luxury, but I have a new guest bedroom all ready. Just say when!
