And surgeries, procedures, inpatient care, specialized tests, and paying for things like "nasal management products" (Tissues). Not to diminish the awful of pharmaceuticals, but there's a lotta profit beyond pharma in any country that profits off of human suffering.
One thing that I have learned only too well is that as a patient my life is only of value if I am consuming pharma products.

I just found this out a month ago and entered palliative/hospice care. I'm just a tad sensitive about it as most of it is in fact and deed iatrogenic and there is no real recourse despite malpractice and negligence, wrong diagnoses, failure to disclose. Yeah, I'm angry as heck.

Sometimes it's awful, and I spew bitterness and rage. Sometimes it's peaceful and doesn't bother me. I have found incredible solace in the palliative/hospice movements in the USA, and the work of @Atul_Gawande is to me the most significant and humane I've ever been exposed to.
