I'd also add: I have to sadly say that the complete and utter abandonment of best webdev practices by these complex-for-no-good-reason frameworks I have abandoned web development all together in favor of product design.
I love design but it's still kind of a shame.

Was the web supposed to be a platform for design as the term design is meant very specifically there as in not presented or styled? This is so interesting

In a way I suppose. But that's a complex issue. Another reason for making this pivot was my desire to have more impact / influence on product direction. I was always very opinionated about the UX but never felt heard because I was an engineer.

Ironically I hear what you're saying perfectly well of course it's 33 years in but the idea that designer or developer and a person who is responsible for user experience, while all specialized skills don't need a common language is alive and not good still. That's a good one!

In a lot of companies engineers are just to implement whatever has been designed. That said in my current work environment we've fostered a culture where everyone's input matters. Engineers in my team have great UX thinking and are very customer centric. And I love their input!
