Truly honest question as I'm ignorant here. Please help me understand how "dark patterns" is racist? And remember, I've been asked why my horns don't show for nearly 60 years, so I'm really wanting to understand, not cause upset or argument. At all. xo
2023 is a great time to start using “anti-patterns” for IX that is used without intent and “deceptive patterns” for those patterns that are made with intent. Let’s throw out the monolithic term “dark patterns” and get in tune with inclusive terms that do not have racist (1/2)

Amy’s answer is brilliant. But even if for some reason you don’t find it convincing, why not just trust those who say it is offensive to them and switch? Because the cost of switching to you is near zero, and they’ve told you it will benefit them.

If somebody asks me to respect that I always would do my best to do so absolutely. I'm talking more about context and semantics perhaps and not making myself very clear I'm also not at the beginning or end of a career I'm at the end of life itself and that changes perspective

Hello Molly! I think the point here is that: dark = absence of light or colour is not a problem, we need a word for that dark = a metaphor for bad or evil *is* a problem, because then dark skin is too easily conflated with bad or evil Does that help?

I understand the difference yes it does help thank you. I simply think design pattern works much better for me why use extra adjectives that do not add but can confuse? Design is context pattern is the subject of that context. Seems a lot easier and less controversial to me. You?

I’m a bit confused as I thought we were talking about the use of the phrase ‘dark pattern’ not ‘design pattern’. Forgive me if I’ve missed part of the conversation.
