The World Wide Web in the mid 90s was small enough to be communicative in smaller groups. Concerned with Interop, compat, useful, meaningful, international, collaborative, social and technical growth. For us to have standards as people. Can it get better or are we all just stuck?

I think the same good qualities can be found in smaller communities, as it's happening on Mastodon. I am not sure if the web can escape the platform hole and be free and nice again.

And yet here we are after all these years and Italian and an American who have never met each other still friends still having conversations even on Twitter that have some depth of meaning. Interesting my friend hope you are well XO

I think the web is so vast that "better" may not even apply anymore. The tech will get progressively, measurably better, but as far as the community that we miss, the world of the web has gone from a town to a planet. Some parts of the planet will get better; some will get worse.

A very fairly balanced view, I think. I do agree "better" is no longer truly applicable as a descriptor. I do not see better tech now however, but far worse. It is, as you pointed to the real deal I'm seeking: It's community bonds I so very much miss in these years passed. TY!

I wish we were only stuck. But looking at how the Internet society developed over the past decade, it looks to me like it is only getting worse from here.

We got stuck somewhere along the path, mainly with social media.
