Has anyone noticed how boomers are disproportionately enthralled with voice UI and voice input devices? I guess it was some sort of collective sci-fi dream of the 60s-70s to be able to converse with a computer.

That鈥檚 a good theory actually! Outside of a few core tasks, the modern digital experience can be pretty difficult for a large segment of older users - but voice UI takes a lot of the complexity away from fiddling with small devices and knowing which apps to use.

Conversely, I think younger generations struggle with voice UI, because they're so used to a visual feedback mechanism. The input patterns are vastly different. Voice UI: singular commands of complex nuanced tasks Visual UI: branching logical path of micro-tasks

That is an interesting point I'm less persuaded by the first although not ruling anything out there's usually multi causal factors for any given situation. I myself absolutely find most voice input engines to make me seem illiterate. I have pressured speech and I'm from New York!
