Al Gore to Wolf Blitzer in 1999 "I took the initiative in creating the internet" immediately elicited ridicule from Republicans and many jokes from comedians. Bill Clinton jumped into the comedic Fray with a quip of his own that did use the words Al Gore invented the internet.

Interestingly, Al Gore did take initiative for funding and political initiatives that led to the growth and promotion of the internet and the World Wide Web. In context for a politician the word initiative takes on a specific meaning. No single person invented internet or www.

The person who is considered to be the most prominent figure in the invention of the internet and is referred to as its father frequently is Vint Cerf, who has defended Gore vehemently because of his contributions and initiatives. Many have acknowledged Gore for his work.

The internet and web have moved rather quickly and as such I think we end up with a lot of Mythology and a lot of unverifiable commentary because everybody gets sloppy even the best. I've heard various contributors to both use the terms interchangeably. Knowing they are not!

As if I know from reality? Haha I wasn't there but I think back about places I actually did experience history being made and I still can't be sure reality is real. Memory is distributed not centralized and age, conditions, differences, all make memory different each retrieval.馃
