It's challenging in today's web development. There is a whirlwind of so many options and so much noise the signal seems to be lost. The model of HTML CSS and JavaScript is still with us but it's obfuscated by too many choices. What thoughts do you have on a clear way forward?

I don’t really have an answer, but I’m with you on the signal getting lost in the noise. Some people look to tools to do heavy lifting. Others look to tools to patch a lack of understanding of fundamentals. The latter creates a lesser craft, bloated code and poor accessibility.

So, if I have any kind of answer, it’s better education on why we ended up with web standards in the first place, and how to make well-informed compromises.

I see the plethora of tools and frameworks change and their usage shift year on year. Web standards is the only constant. We should be leveraging them more.

Of course that's what I want as well! And yet in this chaotic environment that feels as if there's no core. I felt we had that in our time. now It feels as if we've dropped a box of puzzle pieces and we don't know how to pick the pieces up and put the puzzle back together again!
