People say that because I'm being critical that I don't agree with them and that I must be trying to prove them wrong when in reality I'm working my way towards whether or not I agree.

That's a high functioning problem solver at work. You're looking atangles thinking about all possibilities, it's not about them. It makes others uncomfortable as they are misperceiving your intent. Maybe we should try to preface our Socratic challenges? It's not my natural way :)
