I would have chosen #1 and #4. The CSS cascade is complicated sometimes, and messing one thing up can break the whole site.

Were you ever taught it in a sequential logical way or did you have to learn it the way most of us learn anything in web?

Primarily, I learned from books. Later, I had people help and show me different aspects that I didn't understand correctly. Ultimately, it can be very confusing for anyone who doesn't study it long/deeply enough.

I find that I have to keep learning the new stuff but it builds on the old stuff except for where it turns it around completely which drives me a little nutty and I would say so if I were still involved in css-wg. I and known for questions like how am I supposed to teach that?!
