I dug deeper into the Twitter thing and I retract that tweet. They did do a good job and then people began misusing it. So folks want Twitter to, in a new roll out, be specific and tell users what alt text is. and they may well do a good job so let's see! 馃槉

What's the misuse that's happening? Using it as a caption/comment, or something worse?

Worse. Advertising and promotion not what alt text is meant for but the original description that everybody loves was a long very detailed description about I believe it was NASA and or the John Webb photos that are coming in description was so detailed it was just incredible

That's horrible. I almost think it ought to be an official category in spam reporting. I do sometimes make my descriptions more explanatory, but that's so they'll help people who can see the image as well as those who can't.
