I worked for a startup in the late '90s that attempted to go in that direction. It was just a few years too early (there wasn't much mobile infrastructure back then & phone displays were mostly text based). The startup founder sure had the right idea though.

Way ahead of their time. We knew there would be many devices to come, we predicted convergence, and we're open to ever growing types of media. What we didn't see coming was the exponential power given selflessly to a species largely driven by self-serving short-term greed.

I didn't have a cell phone when WAP was cool, too young

Ouch. I was definitely not too young and despite not particularly being an early adopter I did have a palm 7 for work purposes! Okay so I'm old but I appear younger and act a hell of a lot younger than I actually am so there's that thank you thank you very much LOL too young SMH

Well, sort of. I said "been there, done that" because I wrote code that was a backend library for a company doing this as their main thing. I didn't directly do WAP/WML for that, I just wrote the glue code so their system could talk to another system. But I "toyed around", too.

And it was indeed "back" in the day :)

I was. Didn’t do to much with it.

I didn't either but I found it interesting, especially the deck model, which is sort of stack-like but not? Hard to see it the way I did then after so much time! :)

Nope! But then, I barely got past HTML/CSS and into PHP. 🤣
