Drug use is often a huge boogie man. You don't have to be an addict to get essentially punished. Most have some history of recreational use. Legal/illegal use often comes with a double standard, zero tolerance for Less harmful substances. You have to be able to discuss honestly.
I just dropped my husband off at the ER. He can’t walk, has no grip, can’t even sit up in his own. Nurse asked what happened. I started to explain, she interrupted me and asked if he has a history of drug use. I said yes. She said “that’s all I need to know”

Whether a compulsion or secondary 2 other physical and emotional issues there's issues with treatment options being limited, issue stigmatized, focus on legal repercussions rather than social support. We have to start getting very honest about these things without feeling shame.
